The Real Spartan III by blackninjafox The Real Spartan III by blackninjafox
The SPARTAN-III program was both the successor and supplement to the SPARTAN-II program. Created and engineered by Colonel Ackerson of the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), the SPARTAN-III soldiers were to be the next generation of supersoldiers. Composed primarily of vengeful orphans from fallen colonies, they would be cheaper to arm, train, and produce; being chosen from a wider pool of candidates, they would also be more numerous than their SPARTAN-II predecessors. They would rely on superior battle tactics, teamwork and sheer numbers rather than advanced technology and equipment, to achieve their effectiveness.

Everyone seems to think that the III's received less augmentation than the II's. Really, the augmentation technology was better for them than the original Spartans. They were just younger when they received them (by about 2 years I think). Their disadvantages came from the less than optimal gene pool, the condensed training schedule, and the far inferior armour that didn't amplify their speed and strength.
Also, they were designed for suicide missions.

Nice work with the image btw. It looks great. A lot like the original concept for the SPI armour.

why is it that Spartan IIIs are more of a downgrade than an upgrade from Spartan IIs?

they were originally intended to be mass produced and cost effective therefore by not augmenting the body like the II's and not receiving the same equipment as the II's the III's were considered less of a spartan.

Very true. They were meant to be cost effective and cheap, with less armor and fewer augmentations as the Spartan II's but thats why I like the S-III so much better! They got harder, and more dangerous missions done with less equipment, and better tatctics. Although I am confused as to why they needed to send ALL 300 of them on one mission time after time.

i think that part was to just symbolize the legend of the 300 spartans. I think of it like this... the SIII's are like Delta squad from MW3 while the SII's are like Task Force 141. Idk if its the best example but as of now its the only one I can think of.
